Rosemarie Reger-Rumsey (Executive Director) “As a wife and mother of three, the greatest preparation to my role at Listening House, came as homemaker where some of our best memories happened around the table.  Our “living room” is a place where people can share good news, ask questions and be challenged and/or forgiven in a way that makes them know someone cares.  The 17 years I spent as a registered nurse comes in handy for assessing medical needs and giving basic home care.  And, my Irish roots blessed me with a sense of humor and a gift of gab – both helpful qualities for spreading our word.”

Julie Borgerding (Program Director) “I have walked among and served people experiencing homelessness for over 16 years, including a previous six-year stretch at Listening House and more recently as a mental and chemical health outreach worker at South Metro Human Services. Each experience taught me relationship was the greatest instigator for healing and change.  This belief led me back to Listening House where our mission is centered on relationship and community building.  In this place we all can grow and change.”

Matt Pfundstein (Staff Associate) “I have often been asked why I work at Listening House; usually by a guest who witnessed me deal with a difficult situation.  I smile and say that some days are better than others.  The fact is most days are better.  Being able to connect on a personal level with our guests, and to give them a place where they feel they matter is very rewarding.”

Joycelyn Johnson (Staff Associate) "I served 17 years in the United States Army, including a tour of duty in Iraq; for 7 years I acted as a drill sargent.  My goal is to serve people in need and to promote peace."

Andrea Hinderracker (Staff Associate) “After acting as church pastor for two years, I was drawn back to the very environment that led me to ministry.  Listening House provides me an opportunity to serve people with full body and spirit.  I no longer spend hours preparing a sermon about loving thy neighbor; I spend hours loving my neighbor.  I am reminded each day that I am blessed, not because of what I have, but for what I can live without.  Loving and serving people who continue to smile, all the while suffering from poverty, mental illness, alienation, or rejection will inspire and enliven the hardest of hearts.”

Sean Sand (Evening Staff) “I believe the beat of our pulse as a nation is how well we serve the concerns of our poor.  I have received great benefit from hearing people’s stories.  God Bless.”

Aaron DeMars (Evening Staff) “To me, the greatest part of Listening House is an atmosphere where guests are treated with dignity and respect.  For many guests, we are more than a drop-in center; we’re their home while they’re making the transition from homelessness.  It is a humbling experience to be able to help them through the transition, and to be a part of the Listening House community.”

Karen Bauman (Evening Staff) “I once used a family shelter, so I’m at Listening House to give back, really.  Plus, it’s a fun place to work.”

Kate Bitney (Evening Staff) “Throughout my years in social service, I have always maintained a connection to Listening House.  For many guests, it’s “home base,” where they socialize, get a cup of coffee, or relax in a chair as they contemplate their next step.  It’s also a place where relationships form and encouragement can begin.  I am proud to contribute toward the Listening House mission, and advocate on behalf of our guests.”
