The Future of Listening House

Listening House is officially a home-owning organization! Hard to express just how excited we are to have a permanent home and to have the opportunity to CUSTOM build a resource center that will directly serve the needs of the unsheltered community in St. Paul. We have been working towards this for a long time and we hope you will celebrate with us when our doors open!

The Pioneer Press recently published an article that covers some of the developments in our mission to acquire a permanent location for the organization. It is worth a read!

The vacant commercial building that for decades housed the original Red’s Savoy Pizza just outside of downtown St. Paul will be torn down to the studs and remodeled to accommodate a new tenant — a daytime shelter for the poor and homeless.

On Wednesday, eager to get ahead of the winter season, the St. Paul City Council met as the city’s Housing and Redevelopment Authority and authorized lending Listening House $1.4 million to open a new satellite location for its day shelter services at 421 East Seventh St. In the interest of time, the council waived a 45-day public notification period.

Jalma: “In order to get open by winter, we have to start now. The main building that’s there right now, we will bring it down to its studs.”¹

Stay tuned for updates about the building progress and our ongoing Innovate Our Impact project.
